The British artist Michael Landy has been a long-time fan of the Swiss artists Jean Tinguely (1925 - 1991). Landy is particularly fascinated by Tinguely's infamous sculpture-performance Homage to New York (1960): In 2006, Landy worked on his own piece relating to Homage to New York. He made a series of drawings and paintings from photos of the performance and began working on studies for a possible re-enactment. This involved reconstructing some parts of the machine sculpture and carrying out intensive research by tracking down and interviewing members of the audience who witnessed the event and using these interviews to make a film. In a completely different format, with dancers and a choreography developed by Michael Landy, in collaboration with Tabea Martin.
